I renewed mine about 6 months ago for the same reason as you, just to speed up the FFL process. Took maybe 3-4 weeks here in Monroe Co.
It depends on the county. Some counties require appointments and such and then take weeks or months. Some you walk in and work the process and they push them through and you have it back sooner.
Hart County, a couple of years ago: Walked in, the judge took the applications and fees from the wife and I, took our pictures. We had permits via mail about a week later.

my renewal in Barrow County, about 3-4 years ago took a week via mail.
If it’s a renewal you get a temp license on the spot.

If you go to Forsyth dont have a damn thing in your pockets except cash to pay for it and whatever is required. Check their website. Went to get my sixth carry permit there never been around such an asshole at check in
Mine expired almost 2yrs ago. Had my new one in about 4 days.
Got my renewal in a week, $30.00 no temp license, TIP, don't let it run out and you'll be fine. if you go to the courthouse, you should know not to fill your pockets with anything in your pockets, empty them out but car keys, billfold.
Sept 2023 applied for a new license in Fulton Co in downtown Atlanta and received it in the mail 12 calendar days later.
