How to install a garbage disposal?

Did not find a preexisting thread, which is weird.

My kid's new house has no disposal but looks to be setup for one. Where can I find a complete video or install tutorial on what I have based on the picture? There is a switch in the wall wired to an electrical box next to the disposal.

Looks to me you need to make room for the disposal and drop the rest down. Also looks like not enough room unless you cut the bottom of the cabinet?

With the pictured setup, install in the left hand sink, then plumb to the pipe crossing over to the drain.

Essentially, with the pipe disconnected from the sink portion and the disposal installed, you'd cut out the size difference from the disposal in the pipe below the p trap joint. Dropping the rest of the assembly down. Might be enough room if you cut out the bottom of the cabinet before the floor. Hopefully some one more knowledgeable can chime in and teach us both some things.

Makes sense. Think he'd still need to cut a few out below to make room for pipe, but nearly as much as I was thinking.

Don't forget to knock the plug out of the port for the dishwasher drain pipe connection.

You have enough room unless you want one that's like 5hp...lol
When you put the flange and mount in it's pretty close up to the sink, that down pipe won't exist. It's mostly difficult because you have to be upside down under the sink to do all of that but it's not very complicated.

One thing to note that has not been stated yet. If your septic system wasn't installed with a garbage disposal in mind, it may be too small.
