OTR Microwave install foul up

I had a chance to buy a new microwave at a great price and bought it with thinking too hard, mistake ! I checked depth and width would fit in the space of the old, (24 yrs), one, but not height

So, the new unit is about 1 1/2" taller. There's a tile backsplash butting up against the bottom of the old unit, so to get the new unit flush against the wall I need to cut the existing tile lower.

I don't have a really appropriate tool to do this but I've seen dremel have a tile cutting bit, which would be an economic way to go, but get's mixed reviews.

Has anyone one used one for cutting installed tile with any success ? Wife will get all hissy if I mess this up....

Buy a great quality bit and try to keep the tile wet.

Speed is NOT your friend, pull up a seat and take your time.

Diamond disk in a grinder. Buy a cheap one from HF and burn that bitch up.

Return when finished....

probably be easier to move the bracket forward the thickness of the tile. if you have to replace that one you may be stuck looking at cut tile

I don't have a grinder and buying one would negate the savings so far Seems that some sort of thing for a dremel type tool is my cheapest option right now, if it's feasible.

I have thought about that. The problem is the bracket will be over the tile, and I don't see myself drilling 4 holes through without cracking some

But would the cracked tile be seen?

You are not a professional, this is DIY... Caulk that Crack. Lol

As great white said. I’d get a piece of 1/4” or 5/16” thick luan plywood, cut to size, and mount it above the tile, secure it to the studs, and mount the new bracket. Way less invasive, less permanent, and less messy than cutting tile!
