Hunting for the first time this weekend, help!

1st. Don't load guns till in stand.
2nd. Unload before leaving stand.
3rd. Watch muzzle direction at all times.
4th. Ask questions. Do what friend says.
5th. Relax and have fun.
6th. Eat garlic before hunting. Spaghetti. Bugs don't like garlic.

If it's a 100+ lb boar hog, you would be better off leaving it in the woods.
It all depends on what it has been eating. They are omnivores.

I killed a 300 lb boar. 6 feet long nose to anus. We ate everything we got back from the butcher. It was good meat and made great sausage. I do recall opening the oven to pull out the boar chops (pork chops) and the aroma was overwhelming

I looked this up on Wikipedia. Apparently it is called Boar Taint, and it affects males once they hit puberty. It is caused by a build up of hormones in the fat. It doesn't affect all males, and it affects those makes who root in feces more than ones with access to cleaner living and feeding areas. They geta build up of a different substance called skatole on top of the hormones. Also the darker colored hogs retain more of these nasty compounds.

So your best bet is a smallish lighter colored boar, or a female.

Learning a lot today.
