A friend had a 12 year old daughter who decided she could smart off to her parents. His wife must not have fussed much but he told the daughter it wasn't happening with him. They had cats that they were trying to train with a spray bottle of water and one day, when that daughter started mouthing off to him, he sprayed her in the face several times. He got a volcano of a crying fit and she ran off to her room. Next day, the same thing happened and he sprayed her again. He finally told the daughter she was going to get sprayed in the face for the disrespect or he would start using the garden hose. He said things started to improve at that point. A fairly unique way of handling it.

I'm way too over protective with my nieces. Any daughter would have hated me, rightfully.

I only have one niece. She's a little angel. Her soon to be husbands father owns a private island. I almost lost it when I heard she was going there for the weekend.

But everything turned out Ok.

I kept an eye on em.

I get it my girls are 9 and 10. At some point I went from best dad ever to the guy with the car and the money. Every parent-child relationship is different. Both parties have to figure out that that is together. Patience goes a long way.
