If you always wanted a 257 Roberts

GMX should be a great bullet. Those solid coppers punch above their weight class.

Ruger has always been the biggest supporter of the .257 Roberts.

Hornady loading manual says I can push that GMX to 3200+ with several different powders. I sold an 8lb Jug of Superformance a while back. Wishing I had some of it back now.

Back in stock if anyone has the itch

.257 Roberts seems to be having a retro-comeback here.

I started a thread a while back on what 'obsolete' cartridge would be resurrected, but I don't remember this being brought up at all. Yet it seems like everywhere I look this caliber is getting mentioned. New ammo, new guns in it and a lot of mention in the gun media.

They revised SAAMI load data (a long time ago) with the 257 Roberts +P to make it still a viable contender, even using factory ammo. There are several rifle cartridges that have died off due to unnecessarily anemic pressure limits. I think there's so much incentive to push new, new, new. Not betting for a big comeback on any of the old war horses, but it's nice if they can stick around.

I think 25-06 is the greatest whitetail cartridge ever, followed closely by the .270. My ideal gun would be a short action quarter bore driving 117 grains at about 3100-3200 fps from 18". Maybe Federal will make a 25 BC...
I can dream.

I know the feeling. Been waiting for S&W to make a 3 series in 45LC.......
