Is reloading a dying hobby?

I still reload. Mainly for custom calibers and my hunting rifles. Aside from that pistol stuff on a single stage just gets shut up to quick. When I make it to the range I spend several hours shooting. Handgun & pistol is just cheaper for me to buy loaded. Pick up my brass and scrap it later on to help fund more ammo purchases.

I started about 13 years ago and I reload 6.8 SPC ll, .223, 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 and I have dies for 30-06 but don't reload much for that. I am buying 6.5 PRC dies this coming month. Since I already have plenty 6.5 pills laying around I might as well do 6.5 PRC. Ammo for the PRC is up there.

I say I do volume reloading but I stock up on carefully prepped and measured ( each powder throw by hand ) and on a single stage press. So loading for accuracy and stocking up on hand loads is more like it. I will set down and do a few hundred rounds and take breaks in between each 100 rounds. I will cover the tray up and go give my hands a rest for a while and then get back to it. So it takes me a good while to work up 300 rounds. It takes a long time to prep rifle brass correctly and hand measure powder. Kinda a pain in the ass but worth it for the quality of reloads that I stock up on. I have to be in the mood because I know it will take most of the day up with breaks and all.

Reloading would be so much more pleasurable if I had a multi-stage press but then I give up some accuracy. That would defeat the purpose of why I reload in the first place. So reloading for accuracy makes good sense unless like 6.5 Creedmoor that shoots very well out of my gun and doesn't cost a fortune per box.

I still buy shelf ammo for 6.5 CM, .223 and 6.8 Spcll when I find deals on it. Just doing a bit of both suits me just fine.

Been reloading 50 years now- used to be able to say it saved money. Now with the price of powder, primers, and bullets and lead alloy it`s about the same price as buying loaded ammo.
Plus side is I can match prep rifle brass. I can cast revolver bullet styles I can`t buy ready made.
I have been using Alliant powders for years, back from when they were Hercules- now the ones I used, Bullseye, Blue Dot, 2400 Rifle, and Unique are almost impossible to find.

Unique was my go to for lead 44 mag bullets if I remember correctly. It's been 30 years. I could be remembering wrong.
