Is reloading a dying hobby?

Easy, easy. I used to love loading 45ACP, 38SPL, 357 and 380ACP. Those are what I started with. Never loaded 9mm or 40S&W. Just not enough savings. Didn't load 223 till I started shooting custom rifles

When you’re shooting high quantities of match pistol ammo, and you’re wanting to barely meet power factor for better recoil management/splits, then reloading is the way to go.

And add in that Powder Valley just went up in flames.
Limited inventory on some items, but Powder Valley is open for business:

My dad taught me when I was young….casting as well.
I shoot mostly my own loads. The only thing I buy is loaded .223 rounds or something like that that I don’t shoot on a regular basis.
I mostly shoot handgun loads like .45, .44, .357/38 , .41 , etc….. it use to be a $ saver but I don’t know now.
I know I have a lot of equipment and components that will probably never be used after I die. My daughter never showed any interest in it.

I have gotten a fair amount of folks into reloading. I buy components when I find them cheap and won’t pay gouger (neck beard) prices. I reload everything I shoot minus rimfire. I also cast bullets, 12/20ga slugs and buckshot and reload birdshot as well. I cast for everything I shoot - from .22 to .45-70 and everything in between. I’ve competed with my hand cast reloads and have fed my family with them too. It’s a very rewarding hobby to me and saves me a ton of money doing so.

For a while I was loading 9MM and .38 Special for around 2.50 for a box. I’ve never been able to buy them that cheap. I was shooting .32 S&W-L during the .22 shortage cheaper than I could find bulk .22 ammo and having a ton of fun doing it. At one time I had 20 5 gallon buckets of wheel weights and I’m down to about 17 now. Still smelt and ingot it when I get a few hours to do so.

I load on a single stage and I don’t have a progressive press, although I helped my buddy set up his LNL Hornady years ago and that thing is nice! I have loaded on Dillon and the LNL and I still am totally fine with my Rockchucker or Classic Cast Lee. I first pulled the press handle in 1998 after coming home from Japan.

I’ve been called dumb, stupid and cheap for reloading, but who's the dummy when you can’t get ammo?…..

luckily, my daughter got into hunting and handloading when she was super young. She has now gotten my two grandsons rolling their own. If it’s game, they hunt it and load for it. I’ve been fortunate in having great kids and grandkids that love the outdoors as much as I have.
