Latin?? Blame Wikipedia but actually it is from the Greek--iambos

Yeah, I often get these two confused.
As I understand it, The Greeks predated the Romans, and actually participated in the early civilization of Rome.
They use many of the same pagan gods, but with different names for them.
And, there are similarities in language structure.
No. I never studied Greek or Latin in school as I saw no use for either at that time.
What little I do know, is very sketchy, and I did pick up a bit of Latin when I was in the 7th grade when my Brother, a Senior in High School asked me to tutor him in Latin.
I did do a crash study, and help him bring his failing grade up to a " B " ... Amo, Amas, Amat, and all that other crap.
Verb declensions just irritated the h*** out me.

Almost every Roman god has(d) a counterpart. Neptune - Poseidon. Zeus- Jupiter. Mars- Ares to name a few. Most of them we know but don't realize. Ceres, Roman goddess of grain gives us the word cereal. Now go have a beer!!

Oh, mah Jupiter !
Don' fergit the 3 "Fates" or the Muses with all the sisters of the arts.

I don't think we could get by about talking of the incest, and other things ... Aphrodite, Ares, Eros, Eris, and their Roman counterparts.

AND, Those Egyptian Gods and Goddesses !
But, that would require entire books to describe.
Isis, Niobe, Ptah, Amon, and countless others.

They also worshiped 'Cats' as they ate the Rats, that ate the grain that Ala Bin Turd Grew, (with Jewish slave labor) and was stored in the Silos.
