Just an idea, opinions?

Somebody explain to me just when a business becomes a voting democracy? It's Steve's site and he doesn't owe anyone access. I have no doubt that someone will shortly start quoting the 1st Amendment which is totally silly - the Constitution limits the power of government - not the power of private operations. If Steve wants to ban everyone whose username begins with "N" - it's his right to do so. Also, I'll assume he chose his Mods with some care and diligence - why shouldn't he trust them? I would never be a Mod at a place where my judgement was not trusted and valued...

The only one here mentioning voting, is Steve. And he started this thread looking for opinions.

I agree that he can and should ban whoever he wants to. I just think that that power should be his alone.

Lol I thought most of us stood for more freedom and less government. :p

I would rough draft that rule into the EUA and when you read it back and it sounds horrible then you will know...

:DDo away with the boiler room!! Most of the problems come from there, right. If someone want's to talk religion & politics i'm sure there is other sites that do that. If you notice a good bit of the problem comes from those that post whore and don't buy/sell/trade, guess what, you won't lose nothing by them leaving. This is a gun forum , you don't see folks having a pissing contest about the ss rifle there thinking about buying do you?Get rid of the boiler room , don't give them a place to whine and cry. If you ask me there is too many places for certain folks to post and looks like it would be hard to keep up with, have General discussion and moderate it heavy. I like the boiler room but if it causes members to want to leave and others to have a place to whine where threads get out of hand just get rid of it, it's not worth having if your supporters (who support you with donations) get ran off by others , who are'nt even here to buy/sell/trade!

Moonpie, you don't like the ban idea cause you know it won't take but a few day's and your gone right?:D

I enjoy the discussions in the boiler room. I am a supporter. Sometimes people do take things too personally. But, there is a difference in joking and being purposely antogonistic/trolling. Take a second to go through the thread that got out of hand and see where it went wrong. "Who drew first blood"and you will probably find the same thing happening in every thread that person has posted in. Then warn or ban. Example-SPIKE.

Lol no... I'm here to stay. See I'll be living proof. My desire to be here is greater than my desire to show my ass. When being presented with being banned for my behavior I had to ask myself how important is this place to me? Because I care about this forum and appreciate the opportunity to interact here I changed my outlook. So I believe that it's as simple as Steve sending a warning and if the situation persist then the BAN HAMMER... That way it's ultimately left up to the member to decide if he wants to remain and then Steve's...

There are definately a few that NEED to go or at Least be Reigned in. As NGIB already mentioned. I don't like a lot of rules either but things have been getting out of hand pretty bad lately and I for one think it's PAST time for Someone to step up do something about the Consistant, Provoking done by same 5 or 6 guys, almost Daily. Their not hard to find, just look at their Post Counts, a few short months here and 1000-3000+ posts. If you reviewed their Profiles and looked at their Posts you'll see who causes Most of the Controversy. Feedback May or May not reflect anything. Little smart a$$ remarks in Peoples Post's, just to stir the Pot, or there are a Couple that have to Attack almost everything a few others say. If you've got nothing but Piss Off comments to make then Don't Post.
If O'Steve doesn't have the time and needs the Mod's to step up then so be it. Let the Mod's give a Temp Ban and Warning, but I do think before a Person get's a Permanent Ban that should be O'Steve's final Word. Just My .02...

Steve's site, Steve's decision making power. Mods can make recommendations to O. Steve. No need to vote. I think the administration has been very even handed. ODT is basically supposed to be a gun and outdoor stuff selling and trading site anyway. Most of those who get bent up about something are arguing religion and or politics. Really don't understand how folks can get so bent out of shape arguing with anonymous people on the internet.

There must be folks here nervous about the Mods getting ban powers - why? I honestly haven't had a problem with any of them and if Steve trusts them to keep his business running - why not trust them to make decisions?

Just wanted to test the waters on an idea I've had for a while.

Would you have a problem with moderators having the ability to "vote out" members of the site? I figure if someone is causing problems but isn't breaking any rules a moderator could bring it up for a vote and if a majority of the mods vote for banning, then a temporary ban is given to that member. If it happens a second time, a longer ban, and a third time, a permanent ban. And if there's a tie, I'll be the tie breaker vote.

I'd also be willing to allow everyone else to vote a moderator out of their position, someone could bring it up for a vote, then whatever the site decides is what happens.

What do you think?
Great idea !
