The Supreme Court of Connecticut has seriously and carefully examined that state's laws regarding the transportation (not necessarily the carrying on your person) of knives and batons. The Court looked at the history of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms as that right relates to things other than guns.
They conclude both that the Second Amendment DOES cover fighting knives and batons AND that if you have the right to have them in your home, the State must offer you a legal way to transport them in your vehicle when you move from one home to another. When the law doesn't have any exception for this and literally bans taking the things out of your home for any reason, that law is unconstitutional as applied to people like this military vet and VA employee who moved from one home to another and put his knives and other non-firearm weapons in his car and just drove them to the new home personally.

It's funny, the Washington Post is the most gun-hating a rag you will ever see. But they have that one columnist (Volokh) who is so dead-on it's scary. This guy is like John Lott, but a lawyer instead of an economist.
