What is the deal with the cooling of the rifle barrel as well as the rear stock? Just asking what it is?

Anyway, the rifle came with that furniture, it’s a cheapo Rossi Rio Bravo with some cheap accessories thrown on it
I picked this gem up today.
Took the aperture off the back and used the threaded mount as an impromptu ghost ring sight to bang some steel today with the 39A. Man, you can EAT UP some ammo shooting that thing!
nice looking 39a with a redfield sight. that is what i use in lever action silhouette matches. did the redfield sight have a adjustable aperture?
No. Single diameter, no diopter.
