Looking for advice on a 308

In your price range the Savage 20" 5R is what I'd look for.

They aren't my first love, but in their price range you'll be hard pressed to beat them. As above they shoot as well or better than rifles costing much more.

Well if you really have the fever get the Ruger now. I have one in .308 and she shoots better than I do. Of course, that's not saying much. Although it would make a much better hunting rifle than a bench shooter. I think the barrel may be too thin for SERIOUS long-range work but it sure is light weight. You can adjust the trigger to a whisper.

If you don't like it you could always sell it for close to what you had in it on the ODT.

I would say the savage trophy hunter. Not much more expensive but better feeling. I don't like the feel of the bolt action of the ruger American. I really like the feel of the Winchester model 70.
