Looking to purchase a new AR any suggestions?

OK, I will say it. I don't know if he can squeeze it into that price range but CM shoot can build you one that would be leaps and bounds above what you will get at that point or you see what he can do for you as far as shelf wise.

The M&P AR's are garbage. I've handled very few and each one had issues.

I joke a lot about PSA being the GOAT, but seriously they are the GOAT of budget AR's.
If you're going to go the budget route and spend $600 or less there's really no need for any conversation outside of PSA.

PSA = pure crap. I just posted a problem I have encountered with a friend's rebarrel job. Their barrel I am having to do work on because it's junk and was brand new. He went out and tried to shoot it yesterday and it has feed ramp problems and the chamber needs to be honed. Two problems needing to be addressed and he didn't even get one round out of it.

My recommendation at this point is spend the 800-900 you were originally going to spend or just wait. Don't buy one just to have one. It should be a purchase with quality, durability and accuracy in mind. Looking for the best option that can deliver those better than the others. If you are going to buy the bottom of the barrel for gods sake don't use it as your primary home defense weapon. Tinker with it at the range because that's all it's good for.

The M&P is probably the best rifle around the $600 price point. Most reliable and least amount of issues, when compared to similar manufacturers like Springfield, PSA, Ruger, BCA, current DPMS, Omni, and such.

If you like the M&P, it's not at all a bad option. Get it, slap an optic on it, a light, and a sling. If you're feeling frisky with it, put a different handguard on it.

A lot of people worry triggers, special barrel profiles, and chrome lined barrels. A Mil-Spec trigger is fine, barrel profiles can enhance the rifle, but are definitely not necessary. The thing with a chrome lined barrel is that it can help with the longevity of the barrel, protect against corrosion and wear. A normal 4150 CMV barrel, without being chrome lined, will last for thousands of rounds. You'll spend far more on ammo, than the rifle costs, before you start to even notice any wear issues with the barrel. And not worrying about the trigger, barrel profile, and chrome lined barrels can help save a lot of money.

They're not the best. Would never say they're the best, but they are the undisputed champion of under $600 budget builds. No questions asked.

And I know you're a little hobbyist that knows everything but some of us do this for a living.

The best option I believe is let CMshoot build you a lower. Then order a pre-assembled upper from Aero. You get a 1 MOA guarantee from the factory ( which will never happen with any other guns in that range ) and they back that up no questions. Then you have a solid base to build on and upgrade. They certainly aren't inferior to PSA or S&W and the lower will last a long time due to the quality parts CMshoot puts in his assemblies. Hands down the best option. IMHO. Just give him a call and let him guide you in the right direction. PLEASE!

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Brand new m&p. These are just videos I took for the customer a while back. But almost every one I've messed with had some issues.

They should sell for $450 but people pay extra for the Smith & Wesson name.
