Marlin 45-70 GSBL help needed - What’s it worth?!

There is no mount orientation that is absolute. Most of the scope manufacturers will tell you the way the mount works for you within the variations of mount space available on the scope is fine. Also the comfort and eye relief of the shooter is the only determining factor in which way those mounts are and can to be used. Some people that have disabilities can use the scope mount the opposite direction is perfectly acceptable. Just because one user mounts those scope rings a certain way doesn't mean it always has to be that way. A neck injury that was repaired may determine how a set of mounts is used. Just because you see everybody else using it a certain direction doesn't mean you can't alter that direction to fit your particular situation. I hear more people harping about that than the subject should be argued about. As long as the mounts remain on the receiver of the gun you are good. PERIOD!

“There is no mount orientation that is absolute.” This is wrong. There are many mounts that have to be oriented a specific way, or they can cause the installer/shooter serious issues.

Many optics mounts are engineered to be installed a certain way. Deviating from that can sacrifice strength and/or how well the mount retains your optic. On a hard recoiling rifle like the OP’s, you are better off following the correct method of installation. The rings in the pic already are not anywhere near one of the better options, and definitely not what I would recommend.

It’s got an LPVO and irons. Mount that scope lower, and take advantage of the versatility of the LPVO. If you want to use your irons, remove the scope. I don’t even see a necessity for a QD system, just keep the one small tool you need to remove the scope with the rifle. However, there are plenty of quality QD rings readily available.

Scope too high comrade.

Also, OP. I'd love to know where you got the boolit leather on the stock. That would look great on my 1895 Dark.

Several companies make those, I have some on my rifles from Bo Ballard, I can’t remember who made the others. I have one on order from Barranti right now. Think I bought one off Etsy.

Google “leather buttstock cartridge carrier”.
