Need brush hog (rotary mower) recommendation

I’m torn. 48” May work the tractor less but my tractor is about 56” wide which seems like it makes it harder to cut up close to trees and fences with a 48”

Easier than you think... get as close as you can on the first pass then take advantage of that hydrostatic transmission. Pull up parallel, press on reverse and back at about a 30 degree angle to the fence, and get as close as you want. Pull up, do it again (rinse, repeat), which is also how I often run my finish mower in/near fenced areas.

you can adjust the width of the back wheels. (probably, not familiar with this exact tractor, so don't want to make an absolute statement.

When I was in the market Howse had by far the best price for quality. I wound up with a "medium duty" 5' with slip clutch and chains for several hundred less than the competition. I just had to check and I'm shocked, it was 13 years ago!
I've beat the snot out of the thing and am ashamed how poorly I've treated it and it just keeps on keeping on....
Unfortunately it appears they only do 10' in the medium duty line now. https://www.howseimplement.com/product-lines/rotary-cutters.html

The new place has about 8 acres that’s just a field. It’s pretty smooth and no stumps or rocks. The dealer set aside a land pride RCR1260 for me. He assured me it was compatible with my tractor. I’m supposed to have it delivered in a couple of weeks. I’m ready to try it out.

thanks to everyone for the assistance.

I bought a Howse in about 94. Being a beginner to tractors and rotary cutters I really abused it. Lasted about 10 years maybe. Bought a new tractor and bought a Bush Hog brand a few years ago. I know a lot more now and don’t abuse it or the tractor. The Howse was ok I just tried to cut a lot of stuff I had no business doing. Also learned just because you have a heavy box blade a tractor is not a bulldozer. Lol
