Yeah. Fairly certain I won't climb my butt into one of those.

One timers. They were so damn heavy you carried em in 1 time. Left em.No, but I have been in some made with 4x4 and 2x8 pieces of wood and extension ladders or boards nailed into the tree to climb up
I did that with my Tree Lounge. Grandma Margaret was one tough woman who hated deer. One timers. They were so damn heavy you carried em in 1 time. Left em.
I`ve been toting a Treelounge since Margaret and hubby started making them. I`m almost 80. Younger generation are wimps. Due to some back problems I`m considering draggin it in on my deer cart beginning this week. The old barrels were common in the 70s. My first deer I killed in Paulding,(1970?) I sat on a 2x4, between two limbs,( feet dangling) about 30 feet up a tree(white oak). Barn nails for steps. Shot a 5x3 buck, 125 yards, open buckhorn sights, with an old Marlin in .32 Win. Special. On a good day this rifle would shoot a 5inch group at 75 yards. You couldn`t see any rifling in the barrel. I guess it had a little. You no longer see many of the old homemade wooden stands, just rotten pieces, or the old liquor stills on most branches like you used to see. Good memories.I did that with my Tree Lounge. Yeah, I loved my tree lounge when I was young but age and knee surgery made that spin move to sit down a little more exciting than I liked. Knew a old timer that rigged one of those barrel stands to a rope hoist and he'd pull himself up. Either braver or more foolish than me. Never wanted to try it.That's a new style on me. I've only seen them bolted to the tree like a hang-on. They all have the bottoms rusted out. I've done some crazy stuff, but I've never hated a deer enough to stand in a barrel for hours waiting for one to stroll by. Not that it's really better than the conduit lock ons and tree hooks we used back in the day, but at least you had a seat.
I toted a tree lounge for years. I quit when I got scared of heights. Used to go at least 20’ up to spend the whole day looking over clear-cuts. Got entertaining when the wind kicked up around 11am.
Now a 15' ladder is all I can stand. There's no way I'm doing that spin move to turn around and lie down in a tree lounge. I'm starting to look at those little R clips on my tomcats kinda suspicious.
