Women your(my) age still expect the traditional financial obligation of men paying for the date still exists. It's a part of the double standard women enjoy, no matter how wealthy or independent they are. Just shut up and pay. You and she will both be happier.
Your first problem is waiting to ask the "independent woman" question after you've already paid for everything. I've seen several YouTube videos where the guy asks that same thing before the dinner check is brought to the table. Depending on the woman's answer determines if he asks for separate checks or not...
