That'd be nice to see
Elgin serial number estimates an 1875 production. My grandfather was given it by his father and I believe his father gave it to him. They moved to Illinois from Germany around 1900 so who knows where he got it from. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. I think it was over wound and the spring broke. I want to have it fixed but I'm unsure of who to take it to. I definitely don't want to risk shipping it to a repair shop.

That's nice, great story. Problem is finding a reputable repair shop. There are plenty around. Keeping it all original would be important

Ok, I've had this automatic TAG since our vacation way back when BC (before children). Every once in awhile she'll run down. I don't have one of those fancy automatic watch winders.

Winding the stem was always a PIA. Until one day I had an idea.

Makes is SO much easier to wind now.

What was the solution?



Redneck ingenuity at its finest...

Crimped .223 hull does the trick.
