Old lead "bricks"

From time to time, I "arbitrage" lead shot. Magnum shot provides good alloying material for less than you can by comparable alloy from a dealer.

I have never understood the benefit of making your own lead shot.

About the only reason I thought about making lead shot is availability

Lead shot is not easy to make. I know several guys that have given up.
Lead shot is expensive nowadays.
You can no longer load 12 or 20 gauge shot shells and save money. It'll cost you $6.00 a box for 1 oz loads.
You can buy 1 1/8 ounce loads of Winchester or Federal at Wal Mart for $22 + tax.
You actually save money as well as your time and get more shot in the shell.

You can still save money loading .410/28 & 16. The .410's cost me $9 a box to buy and about $3 a box to make.

Pure lead is too soft to do much with, wheel weights are ok.
We have a trader on here that makes really excellent shot, I know because I've done business with him.
He will even trade you finished shot for wheel weights, you will get half the weight in finished shot.
I don't know if he would even trade for pure lead. I'll check my history and see if I can get you a name.
He was a real nice guy to do business with, but he's not in the business of making shot for others ......

His name is @Animalguy
