This is about what it takes (below) to convert a $495 Saiga sporter rifle in order to resemble a out of the box $495 WASR-10. Remember, the moment you begin the Saiga conversion its warranty is voided. On the otherhand the WASR-10 needs no conversion and it comes with a 1-year warranty. I'm not touting the virtues of either rifle, only "the evil features" that we've all come to expect and love on our rifles.

Part to purchse:
US made flash hider
US made trigger group
US made piston
Bullet guide kit
Russian type Rear sight leaf
Russian type gas tube
Bularian front sight block
Bulgarian gas block
Handguard retainer
Handguard set
Stock
US made Pistol grip
Pistol grip screw
Pistol grip nut

Then:

Remove the barrel shroud
Remove the front sight block
Remove the gas block
Remove the rear sight leaf
Install new handguard retainer

Install new gas block
Install new front sight block
Cut top slot in barrel for handguard retainer fastener
Install the bullet guide
Remove old piston
Install new US made piston
Remove old trigger guard
Remove old trigger group
Weld up the old holes, file and sand smooth
Relocate and rivet (or screw) the trigger guard
Paint and bake the rifle chassis
Install new US trigger group
Install the pistol grip
Fit and install new stock

Fit and install new handguard onto new gas tube
Install new rear sight leaf
Re assemble.
Install the new flash hider

Function test 100 rounds
Jeez. Why not just buy a used Arsenal at that point?

$499 is a good price for a Saiga. Russian AK = Quality

They are fairly easy and fun to convert. CHF Russian barrel. Not only do you end up with a first class AK, you have the satisfaction of knowing you did it your self. You can learn about installing a bullet guide, threading a barrel or putting on a threaded front site and learn about the internals.

OR

Buy 'em and stack 'em for the Apocalypse. Probably better and easier to barter with than silver.

YMMV

Or spend about $200 and get this:

A new Russian AK with new chrome lined CHF russian barrel. Not knocking the WASR, but not in the same class. Oh, did I forget to mention magwell dimples? Also, the satisfaction of doing the conversion. Also, 922r compliant.
