Outdoor Range Recommendation

Find your local IDPA match. There is probably one at an indoor range that would allow what you're after in a match. Most indoor ranges wouldn't allow it any other time. Outdoor ranges may not, especially with other people on the line. Some may not care if there is no one else on the line or in the bay with you.

South River Gun Club. They have a bunch of bays you can set up however you like. I’ve been a member for years and have never been bothered out there. They only thing is check the calendar for weekend matches before you drive out there as they can get busy in the morning; afternoons on the weekends are my favorite because they’re usually dead. I’ve never been there during the week. You also have 24/7 access, just can’t shoot at night.

Is it One time non refundable and a annual membership dues or just the higher one the 1st year?

Ditto on the matches.

Even ranges that don't allow run-and-gun training for regular range sessions by members will often host action shooting matches that involve ducking behind cover, running, reloading on the move, etc.

I try to do matches like that once in a while. Even when I'm nowhere near good enough to win any prize or award, it's a fun way to build/ maintain skills.

I looked into south river. It appears you have to join the nra, pay the $350 non refundable, and then $300 a year. They're constantly closed for matches and events.

You have the pricing right, but the stuff about being constantly closed isn't true. That used to happen every once in a while, but then they built several more bays and you're almost always able to get a bay now. They also post any matches on their web site well in advance, so you know what's happening and when. The one big drawback is that they had to close their 300 yard rifle range and have just recently been able to open it up again with much more restricted times.

I was a member there for well over ten years before they closed the rifle range and in all that time I think there were only two times that I was not able to get a tactical bay and that was before they built about ten more of them. I have recently rejoined and am glad I did.

I wish we had a range like that on the northwest side. Couldn't be in a more inconvenient spot for me. Loving me some governors gun club that just opened in Kennesaw but it does have the drawbacks of not being able to shoot from different positions, draw and move like all indoor ranges. Would love it if someone opened a good outdoor range anywhere from Paulding to northwest of Canton. I would join in a heartbeat if it was close enough to where I didn't have to make a whole day of it when going to the range just to shoot a couple mags or zero my rifles.
