Pet shot and at the vet

I just remembered a story. In the early 2000s I was driving to work and a cat jumped out of the sewer in front of me in my sub division. I got out of my car and noticed it had a claw growing all the way out and back thru it's paw. I grabbed it and took it to the vet, left it there with instructions to fix it and went to work.

I got home that night feeling like a good person and my wife told me it was a neighbors cat and they called the police because someone got out of their car and stole it. BTW I was wearing a suit. So I walked over to their house and introduced myself to the woman who answered the door with 2 children under 10. She proceeded to curse me out like a drunken sailor and tell me that her husband was gonna put me in the hospital. Hmmm. I left and went to the police to turn myself in. They asked if I wanted to press charges against them for cruelty to animals. Nope. A cop who I coach soccer with told me they go to their house all the time for domestic issues. Romeo has a GF on the side and they are all drunks. Like I was. The next day i stopped by the vet's office and paid the bill. $200ish.? The vet cut me a break. The vet told me the husband was in and he told the vet I better steer clear of him. The vet also asked if i wanted to press charges for animal cruelty. The cat needed emergency surgery. They ended up picking up the cat and never paying me back. A few weeks later he walked by my house by himself while I was in my driveway. I walked half way towards him and said - "hey you fat piece of ****, I hear you are looking for me?". In NJ no one carries guns. Manno a manno. He gave me the finger and waddled away.

I keep forgetting that story.

At the time my wife had a male Yorkie that was 5 that meant the world to her and it got kidney stones real bad. They actually all lodged in his penis at one time. She went for the surgery and they actually made him another penis out of tubing that came out below his anus and thats how he went pee. There is NO telling how much money we had in that little dog between the surgeries and all the after affects from the block urine passage. Not doing the surgery was not an option, but then again she made about 95K a year. He made it another 2 years and it was well worth every penny!!! The dogs name was Jake but she spelled it Jaque and thats where my user name came from.

Good man!

We had a cat show up at my home about 6-7 months ago. We named him Tom (for tomcat) and he stuck around and became another one of our barn cats. I really liked him as he ran off any other cats that came onto the property. After a couple months we found him out on the porch and he couldnt walk. Was pissing all over himself and vomiting, so I bit the bullet and took him to the vet. 200 bucks later we found out it was either feline leukemia or he had gotten into rat poison.( Which I have none of on my land) Got him his meds and he recovered for about a week. After that he went downhill pretty fast, and the vet had told me he would give me a "deal" since he was essentially a stray and euthanize him for 200 more bucks. The next day I found Tom laying in his own piss and vomit out next to the food bowl unable to move and having an occasional seizure. So I put him out of his misery with a 22. Single shot and no more pain, I believe that was the best course of action, then my wife and I dug him a grave and buried him on a hill next to the house.

TLDR- No shame in putting em out of misery yourself. In my opinion there is a bit more honor in it then being chucked in a plastic bag and disposed of/burned.

I have 3 old dogs right now. I could not agree with you more. I have a few horror stories from putting my dogs down at the Vet. It can be awful. And it's tougher to put down cats.

lol chucklenut

I may need someone to watch my back. I was washing my bike yesterday and heard something hiss. Sure enough that mean ass tom cat had snuck up on me and started hissing at me. Despite having a high pressure water hose in my hand, the only thing I could think of is "dont make eye contact" and I backs away slowly keeping the bike between me and the cat. I am starting to lose sleep.

I had a dream last night that I was looking through a scope across my street, as I was panning across, the glint of light caught my eye. When I move back to it... it was the gray tom cat... except his face looked like tom barenger and he shot me in the eye through my own scope.

wild ***** can be dangerous :)

but seriously feral cats are ****ing mean and can really hurt someone. when i was younger i saw two big ones run at each other and fight for about 3 seconds behind the kroger at ansley mall here in atlanta

after the 3 seconds both cats walked away different directions except one had its guts hanging out and was dragging them behind it

messed up

Yeah, that's part 2 of the story - who shot the cat?

Don't know for sure but I've got a pretty good idea. Hell, can't prove anything so nothing can be don't. In our county it's legal to kill a nuisance animal but not mame one. A member here stepped up with a contact and it looks like we are going to another vet that might be able to fix the cat for a little less. I guess he will be an inside cat for a little while at least. Ill be on later with an update.

My parents had a kitten years ago that was crawling around in the engine compartment of my brothers truck and got whacked when he tried to start it (not knowing the cat was there). The cat was banged up pretty bad and when my brother went to shoot it to put it out of its misery, the cat looked up at him with its cute...er..."puppy eyes" and my brother couldn't shoot it and took it to the vet. After a couple hundred dollars worth of vet bills the cat was good as new.

Three weeks later it ran out into the road and got squished :censored:

Didn't read all of these but years ago a boxer I had developed a problem (inexplicable and sudden paralysis) when my wife was out of town one weekend. Only place open for emergency issues was UGA vet school. That could be a thread in and of itself (NEVER BRING YOUR PETS THERE!) but when I was told what the bill would be (don't recall
exactly now but well over $1k with an astronomical possible top end) I heard the words come out of my mouth and I couldn't believe I was saying even as I was speaking them... "I don't care what it costs, if he'll have some quality of life, do it." Long story short, they could guarantee NO quality of life and in fact guaranteed he would be paralyzed but still wanted to operate. I had him put down. Losing pets is certainly on the "things that sucks" list. I'd like to think I'd never go in debt to save one.
