This. It wasn’t until this thread that I realized the same thing. Next pay period and I’ll be becoming a supporter as well.

I'm going to start saving up my supporter funds as well.
It might take 3 or 4 months, but I think I would be able to scrape it together without the wife knowing.

Same here. As a retiree on a pension I have to ration my expenses.
Question for Okuma Okuma :
With a lot of us all going Supporter at one time, how will the site budget for a year with a reduced monthly income stream?

I will never get my head around the idea that folks who probably think nothing at all about ordering a $2.89 coke in a restaurant will squeal like a stuck pig when the site owner says he might start charging a dollar per month for running ads for the $1,200 Glock they are trying to unload on another sucker.

yeah.Lilly will be able to eat again thanks to Okuma.

A lot of people. They left their pickups., full sized SUVs, big block V8s parked along side of the road. A complete revolution in transportation occurred. American companies that refuse to follow the market went bankrupt, Japan effectively took over the world automobile market.

Point is, it comes back to traffic.

Which we (anyone on this site) do not have the capability to project.

So to save maybe $6 per tank of gas, they sold their car and spend thousands more to get a new car, to save $6 per tank... People do really stupid, reactionary things... I can't count how many times I have talked to someone who said they were considering getting a motorcycle to save money on gas...

I am like, you want to spend $5k on a used bike, plus insurance which is often more than the car... plus a helmet, gear, tires and wear and tear items... Add it all up and you are in for $6500... How much gas does $6500 buy you?

If you worry about gas price fluctuations, then you have bigger financial issues to worry about, it an extra $10 a week makes or breaks you... Same here. If a simple $15-$25 a year membership fee is "too much" to spend on a year of listing dozens or even hundreds of items for sale, then you probably shouldn't be in this hobby to begin with.

I get value here, despite the large quantity of higher than retail prices... Hopefully a membership model will weed some of those dweebs out...

I saw the argument posted that perhaps they don't know the value... Sorry, if they are here, on the interwebs, then they have 5 second access to what the going rates are. Laziness isn't an excuse... Although, I still see people stuck on how to rotate a picture so who knows, apparently expecting people having managed to join this century when it comes to technology, might be giving them too much credit...

I will sign up as a Supporter today, might as well have some skin in the game rather than just posting my opinion, right?

I assume you take a debit card or PayPal? And for you guys wanting to write checks... get on your horse and buggy and get to the bank and order a debit card already. It's not the 1970's... LOL

A buck a month is nothing, if you can't afford the equivalent of a dozen .22LR you have made some poor life choices to get there.

My idea would be to leave the site free for anyone to view.

In order to post a response, ad, or send a PM from non-supporters, that's where your dollar a month would come from and start.

The only issue would be the ones that claim they don't get on here much and list their phone number. Make that a rule that would draw a infraction to list a phone number in a post I believe the loss would be minimal. Or charge the member a quarter for that particular infraction.

Just my .02 sorry if it's been suggested before. I enjoy this site probably more than I should and didn't mind supporting the work someone did since I benefited from being on it.

I've yet to read a cogent argument against the proposal. It's been proposed that non supporters get 1 free for sale post a month, non renewable, after that additional posts in that month cost $1.

Anyone too cheap to live with that model is one of those who believes it's their 'right' to sit around whining that their tax funded cell phone and flat screen aren't the latest generation.

Oh yeah, EBT cards should only be valid for bread and vegetables.

Or defending your ad against negative comments, will be allowed.

Don't ask me how I know. lol
You can simply delete comments you don’t like in your ad. Getting rude and disrespectful towards another member is against the rules. Thinking you are entitled to a snippy remark just because... is juvenile.

One man's crap deal may be another man's unicorn. Have you never paid too much for an item because you really wanted it? Or maybe that's just me and the reason I'm always broke. :)

I haven't paid more for it when it's so readily available, cheaper, in so many other places, no...

Take a Keltec Sub2k... Most LGS carry the popular carbine, today, for anywhere from $329-$399 all day long. And yet we have seen them for sale here, for up to $550. And the couple times I asked someone via PM what it comes with to justify a $200 markup, the answer was almost always, nothing. Their local dealer gouged them, they were an uneducated buyer and didn't know any better because they were too lazy to google "Buds guns sub2000" or whatever to get a going price, and they also felt in some cases, that people would pay more to avoid having to go through a dealer and filling out a form... which part of me finds that mindset a little shady, but whatever...

We aren't talking about rare, hard to find items that a collector might pay more for... We are talking common, everyday guns that you could pick up at any LGS for significantly less money...

Why it matters, to me, is that it makes the site seem like it's no longer a place to score a good deal. It's kinda like how gun shows over the past 10 years went down hill... We can argue about WHY it happened, but the reality is that it did happen, and most shows today suck. Lower selection, same old stuff, and more often than not, it costs more than the LGS... That hurts the quality of the gun shows and is why attendance is down... which makes it harder for those dealers to make a living, etc...
