Its not about price controls so much as wanting to keep the forum from being overpriced crap deals...

Isn't any item worth exactly the amount someone is willing to pay for it? A phrase like "crap deals" is ambiguous. What's an example of a crap deal? I know on every item I've posted I've received "yard sale" offers, which would certainly have been exceedingly excellent deals for a buyer but would have been crap deals at a high loss for me.

Perhaps there could be a section for "priced for immediate sale" for highly motivated sellers. It seems that could be what many if not most are looking for rather than fair deals for both parties.

When a used, common product is listed at $50-$100 more than half a dozen local gun store's regular every day price, it's a crap deal.

When a forum has a reputation is good, when it's known for quality deals and good prices, it's a better forum. Same with a gun show.

When it's all just the same used guns, except a 20% markup "so you don't have to fill out ATF paperwork", I think it makes the forum less desirable. The quality goes down...

Just like gun shows. Why go to a gun show, pay $12 to get in, to pay 10% more for a gun than Adventure Outdoors or Bass Pro is selling it for?

Yes, once in awhile you find a deal, or something rare. But wouldn't you want a place where that is more the norm, and not the occasional exception?

The only people against cleaning up some of the "crap deals" are probably the people listing the crap deals... LOL

I mentioned this many pages ago, but I think we should have “good deal” and “not a good deal” votes or they could be “like” and “dislike”

“Good deal/like” votes would move a listing up the page and “not a good deal/dislike” votes would move a listing down the page.

You’d quickly find that you priced your junk too high because it would get buried quickly. People would be motivated to price competitively and good deals wouldn’t get buried by junk.

It's not going to happen. We've never allowed any type of negative comments in ads, and we aren't going to start. The same applies to something like you're describing that can be used as a way around making negative comments about price, etc.

We actually did try out an add on a few years back that let you do a thread rating and it quickly went away because it was a matter of days before guys were using it to **** on other users ads. The same kind of thing even happens with the current "good deal" thing we have now. Every once in a while something particulary outrageously priced will get posted, and handful of assholes will get together and vote it as a good deal so it becomes the deal of the day.

I would like to nominate myself to chair the GOOD DEAL/NOT GOOD DEAL committee, along with two other members, have to be supporters, who would be chosen by me. It will be tough to find the other two members because they have to be aholes who know everything like I am....but I am positive a could find a few on this site.
It would work like this: All for sale deals would go before the committee and be declared good deal or not good deal and the members could act accordingly. If some member buys something that the committee has deemed not a good deal, that member is immediately banned. If no one buys what the committee has deemed a good deal, after thirty days of no sale, the sale amount will be divided amount the supporter of this site and they will pay it. After all, a good deal is a good deal. No member would be allowed to question the committee's findings. No comments about the committee would be tolerated. Any comments would be ground for banning.
Once this committee is up and running, I will excuse myself from chairing the committee and immediately crown myself Czar of this site.

I believe that would work. (yes, that is tongue in cheek, and it is stirring the pot a bit.)
