I would like to nominate myself to chair the GOOD DEAL/NOT GOOD DEAL committee, along with two other members, have to be supporters, who would be chosen by me. It will be tough to find the other two members because they have to be aholes who know everything like I am....but I am positive a could find a few on this site.
It would work like this: All for sale deals would go before the committee and be declared good deal or not good deal and the members could act accordingly. If some member buys something that the committee has deemed not a good deal, that member is immediately banned. If no one buys what the committee has deemed a good deal, after thirty days of no sale, the sale amount will be divided amount the supporter of this site and they will pay it. After all, a good deal is a good deal. No member would be allowed to question the committee's findings. No comments about the committee would be tolerated. Any comments would be ground for banning.
Once this committee is up and running, I will excuse myself from chairing the committee and immediately crown myself Czar of this site.

I believe that would work. (yes, that is tongue in cheek, and it is stirring the pot a bit.)
I second this nomination.

Again, here is a solution.

If YOU think its overpriced, do not buy it.

Simple as that.

Or do you think you get to tell ME that I think its overpriced? lol.

Overpriced is easy to tell. When the item is a common commodity, and you can look and quickly see what the "going rate" is for the item, it's pretty obvious that a stock Glock 19 with "low round count" isn't worth more than the brand new stock Glock 19 that all the dealers are charging $100 less for...

"Overpriced is easy to tell."

No, its not. NO ONE is going to tell me what I can pay for an item I want.

And WHY I want to buy it, at WHATEVER price is nunya.

No one here is my parent, or my wife, so you have no such say in my life.

Then continue on the way it is, and watch less and less good deals here and let it turn into Facebook ads and CL.

You win. Enjoy MSRP plus 20% on your used guns...

You absolutely have the right to pay more than something is worth... genius...

Surprised that so many want price controls. Maybe set by the Gub'ment???
I don’t want price controls. My idea is more like visibility control. The market would determine how visible the ads were. Great deals always on page 1, like a sale circular. Somebody could still pay a few bucks for a sponsored ad if they wanted top dollar for their gun and didn’t want it to move from the top.

No site can tell someone what they should price there item for nor should they. You don’t like the price move on.

You guys really must be trying to miss the point.

If people want to list used Glocks for 20% over MSRP, let them. If you are dumb enough to pay that, go for it.

But there is no reason why we can't point out that someone is price gouging, or just plain clueless as to what their item is worth...

A lot of us would rather have a forum of quality over quantity. You, clearly, want quantity and that's fine, but it makes it that much harder to find the good deals, and a lot of us, simply give up and go to the LGS to get what we want because this place has gone down hill over the past couple years. A lot.

And if the site is having financial trouble, and struggling to stay viable and asking people to pay to keep the site going, then we absolutely have the right to make suggestions to make it better. I don't want to pay, just to keep a site open so that I can see nothing but overpriced items and people trying to be "off the book dealers" by flipping and marking up used guns over retail. Why would I want to pay, for that?

I tend to pay for things that I feel I get some value from. If you and others aren't willing to do anything to make the site better, then why would we want to pay for it? If it's free and it sucks, no biggie... If we are paying for it and it sucks, that's a different and less appealing matter.

I would say that most of the people saying to keep the crap overpriced ads, aren't willing to pay for the forum anyway, so frankly, who cares what they, and possibly you, think?

I don't think it has to go so far as price fixing, but surely something can be done to at least cut down or weed our the crap and "wannabe dealers" while preserving what this place was supposed to be, no?

Again, if something is free and it sucks, it's not a big deal... Gun shows, this forum, etc...

But when you are asking people to pay to use something, then it creates a certain expectation in their mind, that a value will be provided...

I have purchased 10 guns in the past few months. All of them from local gun stores. I looked for them here, and in every single case, the used gun here, was more than the new gun at the dealer. I racked up a lot of sales and trades in my first year here, and then it quickly went down hill. I try to price my items at least $25 less than I see them for on Bud's or GA Gun store, which is probably why 90% of the things I sell, sell within 24 hours. I tend to price things fairly.

A lot of folks, don't. And that's ok, but when the overpriced stuff becomes the norm, and the market value becomes the exception, I think it makes this forum a lot less desirable of a market... which again, is fine when it is free... but if we are going to a "pay to play" model, I would hope that we improve things.

Call me crazy...
