My mom (born in 53), her sister and all thier friends created their own little language to be able to talk to one another around adults. They came up with code names for certain topics, moved around vowels in words, changed where verbs and nouns fit within sentences, etc. They did in front of me one time and it was hilarious.

Also, when you were younger, I bet you read Playboy for the insightful articles. :)
Your mom’s silly little code language and whether I looked at Playboy pictures (I did btw...but they were very tame back then...nothing like Snapchat today) have nothing to with the destructive power of a camera in young teens bedrooms with no parental supervision.
Nice try.
Hey, btw my son asked me to tell you to get your daughter to stop sending him pictures of her in the bathroom (gross)...but I guess that doesn’t bother you. Kids will be kids right?

Ha, what's you opinion on long division? Should one be able to do it in their head or is using a calculator a crutch?

Hey how’s your map reading skills? Or are you like my daughter...if her gps tells her Florida is north she will end up in Ky before she turns around? Lol. Bet you can’t find your mailbox without your iPhone.

I’ll bet you trust your car’s av mpg display too dontcha?

Because you can’t do the long division in your head at the gas pump, right? without your “smart” phone?

Actually, I think “smart phone” is a really ingenious description. I think they make people dumber.

just look around u sometimes they never leave these young peoples hands saw couple in hamburger joint one day noticed they couldn't,t eat lunch for messing with their phones its a disease or walking around looking at their phone

I think you've turned into my favorite ODTer.

My oldest daughter is 5 ... but I plan to raise her to understand what a phone can do. I'm sure she will make some mistakes but she should be fine. Things will continue to advance and we will adapt and evolve, as we have always done.

Every vehicle I own has a road atlas in the trunk along with an emergency roadside kit and an emergency stash of water.

Do you know what hypermiling is? I do it a lot.

I'm sorry your daughter doesn't know where Flordia is. Maybe you should spend more time with her and less time on ODT.

Lol. I’m gonna save this post. When your daughter is 16 we will revisit this. I love your confidence...I was the same way at your age. Teenage daughters (and boys) will be a brave new world for you...

It's all parenting problems. I have 2 small children and when I am out I notice other families with similar ages kids and the whole damn family is on thier phones at the dinner table cant hardly look away long enough to order a meal. Hell there are kids in the daycare we use that are jammed behind a tablet in a chair when I drop my kids off and the same chair same kid same tablet in the same spot when they get picked up. Nothing the owner of the daycare can about it. (Parents are pricks according to her)

I think its lazy parents getting away with entertaining thier kids with as little effort as possible on thier part. I wont blame the kids or the product. But either way it isnt good for them.

I'm convinced that smart phones (and other electronic devices/conveniences) are the main reason people don't "know" things anymore. It's too easy to google something and what you 'learn' isn't always the truth. Further, and this is based solely upon my observations of young people, the parents that do not allow their kids to remain glued to devices/games seem to have much more socially adept young adults instead of mumbling morons that cannot make eye contact when speaking.

The rise in violence (road rage, shootings, assaults over political differences, etc.) is directly related to the "support" offered by the voices from these devices.

It will get worse and worse as these kiddies grow up. They will always have support for their wacky ideas and activities through their fones.
