Stop #2: Iron Pig in Jefferson, GA

We live just up the road so we eat here a bit. Love their sauce, beans, stew, and brisket. They were out of the brisket tonight but had everything else. Also got a pulled pork sammich to compare apples to apples.

Likes: Their smoker is just cool. It’s in the shape of a locomotive. As mentioned, their stew is great. Consistency, texture, depth of flavor, made with pork, peppery but not spicy. Their beans are the best I’ve ever had. Not overly sweet. Has Lima beans, kidney beans, meat, and a sweet/smoky essence that we just dig. Their sauce is also great. It’s a vinegary/tomato combo that’s a good combination of runny but still sits on top of the meat. Their pulled pork is flavorful with or without sauce.

Did not like: buns. Wonder Bread buns. They steam in the wrapper if you get it to go and are just cold by the time we got home. (Hello microwave). They also sauce the sandwich for you which just soaks into the bun and makes it soggy in addition to being cold. But at least the sauce tastes good. I also wish the meat had a bit more outside bark mixed in. I’m probably just bitter because their brisket sold out.

Overall it’s very good, I think the best one in town. I ate the beans in spite of having gout if that tells you how good they are.

I've been there twice and it was a number of years ago. I can't remember the name, but it seems like you walked down a really sketchy alley to get to it. One of the guys at the jobsite recommended it. The ribs were awesome.
Rendezvous is the name. Good bbq and ribs but I would prefer Gus world famous fried chicken down the street.
