@bearpugh i donated as well brother and even tho we haven't met/traded together yet I can tell you're a great guy to deal with :) ANOTHER thing I just noticed is you're right up the road from me and if YOU or your wife needs anything just PM me and I'll be there! I've met a lot of great people off this site and I could only imagine the feeling you have when you read ALL these comments and know deep down that WE HAVE YOUR BACK!

Man, thats awesome! Could you stop by and pay them a visit for me?

What do yall think about me raising the goal amount? I was really thinking that we can as of now pay the bill in full but there have been several people share the link on other sites and I would like for the amount to keep climbing. Even penny we get will go straight to ga power so he can have a credit for future bills.
I'm not trying to be greedy and hope it don't look that way, I just know this issue won't end anytime soon.
I say lets cover the power bills. and I'm sure he has other expenses he needs help with also.

Here are a few thoughts/questions I had as I read through this:

  • I wouldn't give all of this money to Georgia Power. It appears there are other needs such as groceries, so I'd only pay Georgia Power enough to get them off Bear's back and allow him to use the money as he needs it. As this is a re-occurring need, some other type of account might need to be created. These fund raising sites are great and all, but they take a decent chunk of the money raised. Every dollar needs to go directly to assist Bear.
  • GeauxLSU provided a link for possible assistance programs on power. Have any of these avenues been explored? Is Bear on one of the plans where his power bill is the same every month for a year? If it's variable (as mine is), that makes it harder to know what is needed each month. I believe with these plans they assess your prior year's usage, and give you a flat rate per month that they reassess annually.
  • Are there any local churches or food pantries that could help? Bear shouldn't be without food because he has a high power bill. In addition to money, maybe Kroger/Publix gift cards would be a good thing to give as well.
  • As far as long-term, does Bear have a really old HVAC system, and poorly insulated home? I'm sure there are guys on here in the HVAC/building that could probably assist with getting his home as efficient as possible.
