Has anyone else noticed how anything big that happens is never what really happened?

I missed the story. Why are they taking pop shots at a meteors? It would be a mind blowing shot if they hit it but aside from that why the hell would anyone care?
They might be using some of them $13.00 a box Estate Target Loads!! I KNEW I should've bought some of them suckers! DADGUM!!
I think the first "object" was a lens artifact.
Anything which could possibly have caught that thing would have left a smoke trail.
I don't think there is any possibility that this thing was shot. The US is the only country with "functional" anti-ballistic missile technology-and even ours doesn't work like that.
(The "tests" of our Anti-ICBM systems require catching a missile on the way up and calculating an accurate trajectory. They can't work on "pop-up" targets with 10 seconds warning. Simply impossible.)
