There was a sonic boom and a shock wave which is what did most of the damage and cause most of the injuries. There is nothing man made that is going to catch up to something traveling 40,000 mph. Then also realize the calculations it would take to have two objects traveling at such great speeds intersect. If you are off by .1 seconds you miss by more than a mile. Then take in to account the reaction time to get whatever missile in the air on short notice and you will realize how unlikely it is.

The Russians shot down an SR71 that was traveling over Mach 4 in the UPPER atmosphere back in the 70's bro.

Nobody ever shot down a SR71.

Russia shot down a U2 piloted by Gary Powers in 1960. It flies high, but nowhere the speed of the SR71. Iirc, it doesn't even go the speed if sound.

Whatever...point being, it was HIGH and FAST in the 60's.
Satellites can be shot down that travel 18,000 mph in SPACE...and they aint near as big as a jet.

The point is that no one shot down anything going Mach 4 back in the 60s or 70s. The fact that the Russians did shoot down a U2 back in 1960 in no way lends credence to the story that they she down a meteorite in 2013.
