"Q" firearms. Quality or marketing hype?

A 6.5 Creedmoor barrel's lifespan, in terms of accurate and usable shooting, typically ranges from 1,500 to 3,000 rounds.
On the extreme ends that is 28 or 56 rounds a week for just a year before the barrel needs to be replaced.

You’re shooting fast as hell and hot rounds if you’re getting 1500 out of a 6.5CM. 6CM 1500 and the barrel is toast 💯

My buddy and I are seeing 3200 rounds out of our 6.5CM rifles. Maybe a crappy barrel you’ll get 1500 rounds?

Yeah I saw the drama about that as it was happening.
What he doesn’t show is the actual design of the baffles and how it controls flow and back pressure. KB did a whole thing about it, it’s not a trash panda, it’s the SouthPaw.

I own a trash panda and it’s not a great 556 can, you can shoot 556 through it, it’s got a good tone but like any titanium can it will erode and spark. It is however fantastic on a 300blk or 308 gun.
I need to look at that. I am very excited to pick up my Jumbo Shrimp this week. I have a 6.5 bolt gun it’s going to be dedicated to. I usually run the SDN6 on it, and it’s quiet but I can now use that elsewhere

q makes interesting stuff but the price and company culture is a real turn off to some people, myself included. I shopped for a high end, portable 300BO I didn't have to build myself (even though I could have) an ended up down to a Honey Badger or Sig Rattler. The Sig checked more of my boxes and I ended up going with it, and it's been kicking ass for years now. We have a honey badger at work and it looks cool on the wall but doesn't really do anything better than anything else anymore.

KB is a DB. I really don't care for him (not that he cares one thing about what I think).

Q pretty well embodies what KB has done with his career. Take someone else's money and plans and design something to barely improve on it, then take full credit. Yes - technically, KB created the 300 blk, but what he really did was barely tweak the 300 whisper and then market the hell out of it. The Fix? Hire the guy that was deigning the Sig Cross, paint to make it all pretty, and then market the hell out of it. At first, he marketed it as a straight pull, but he couldn't figure it out. So we have what they are putting out today - a knock-off of the cross, with the main R&D being funded by Sig, put with a pretty paint job and better marketing. Oh, and generally speaking - they don't shoot particularly well.

I don't mind spending money on gun stuff, or hobbies in general, and will shell out money for more consistency, small benefits in useability (weight, balance, quick change barrels, ergos, etc). Q products just don't offer the benefits that I'm looking for at the price point with any meaningful benefit in accuracy or reliability or whatever I may be looking for. Everything is a balancing act - give up here to gain here, but some things I just don't want to give up, especially at a higher price point. Q really doesn't know how to cut a barrel or chamber.

I've read similar. In 2010 I picked up a PILE of 300 Whisper brass at the range, long before 300 AAC Blackout became all the ragey hotness.

To the naked eye, there's barely a whit of difference between the cases.

i like them a lot compared to other bolt guns, impala @350 yards with Q Fix 6.5 CM off sticks.
i had drinks with owner Kevin B in South Africa at hunt camp and he is extremely nice, wanted to hear all about our hunt and see pictures and shared in my excitement (which he didnt have to do, as he has a museum filled with the rarest animals).
He takes VERY good care of all his employees, he brings them all to hunt in Africa.

That's one helluva ... everything. Trip, hunt, pic, view. Very nice

You mean other than the headstamp?
Yes, to my eye (memory). I can pull the baggie and compare. I remember thinking how odd it looked, almost like a skinny 7.62x39mm cartridge with nearly no shoulder.

I doubt necking up a 22 caliber rifle cartridge to 30 cal was a "new" concept when the 300 Whisper was a wildcat.

I have a Honey Badger, after having Rattlers and DD PDW, etc. Honey Badger is what I prefer. The company built the 300 round and the HB has full adjustable gas block and 1/5 twist. It's a very innovative firearm and works great. I run a Thunder Chicken on mine and it's excellent.

The new Rattler LT isn't as light but it's pretty close. The only issue with the LT is it's Sig. I don't trust the company.

Plus I'm all honest I just prefer the Badger.

Kevin loves to troll. It's hilarious. I don't take it seriously at all. He puts a lot of effort in his design and products. Classic Firearms did a walk along guide with him in his manufacturing plant. Worth looking at.
