I need to sight in a couple of new optics and am wondering if a bore sighter would help. It seems logical that i could use one before heading to the range to at least get on the paper and potentially save some ammo. Looking for opinions on whether that is true and whether the cartridge type or the stick-in-the-barrell type are better. Lastly, does anyone know of a range that will loan you one to use there?

I've never seen a range loaner, but they can be bought , I am borrowing one from a buddy for a 223 sight I totally screwd up in adjusting it.

I use boresighter lasers that are specific to each caliber. I've used one of the multi cal models and its not as accurate. You're right that it'll get you on paper, then fine tune your optics from there.

I've never seen a 'stick in the barrel' type that worked... For a bolt gun, just look down the bore and adjust the sights to that. Non-bolt gun platforms are a little harder.

I've always thought the cartridge type would work better, but I've never seen one up close and personal.
