Recreational Pot; has your view changed?

Do you think marijuana should be decriminalized and taxed as a commodity?

The biggest reason it's not already legal is that the alcohol industry is spending half a billion a year to lobby against it. Alcohol has caused far worse problems than we'd ever will. That is especially true when you consider all the people locked up for minor marijuana offenses. Families have been destroyed because the mom, dad, or both are in prison.

its also the pharma industry. It can effectively kill the need for SEVERAL drugs and costs nothing compared to them and you can grow your own, no way in hell they want that. Another big one that's mentioned far less often is the drug tests themselves. Those tests are a multibillion dollar industry and the VAST majority of them are just being used to catch pot heads.

Take a trip to Oregon or Col,then get back with me.

My view hasn't changed at all. Keep it illegal, shut that **** down in Colorado.
:target: Flame on.
I find it hard to believe that anyone who has visited Denver since legalization would be in favor of legal recreational use. It's depressing as hell.
(I have no issue with medicinal oils subscribed like any other drug as I'm confident it is beneficial to many patients.) This is like most every subject... on one side "It has less effects than the fluoride the industrial machine puts in your water dude!" and on the other "One puff and your brain is mush!".
I think it's not in the interest of the "general welfare" but that is obviously a subjective opinion. I do believe it shouldn't be a federal issue and should be only regulated at the state level. Like all things I'm 100% in favor of the local constituents enjoying the 'benefits' of their decisions.
At most, I suppose I'd have no problem with it being made legal recreationally in PRIVATE (no public use) and if you are caught under the influence in public, particularly driving, nail your irresponsible teenage wannabe rear to the wall.
I admit, I've never understood addictive personalities, must less catering to them, so I'm operating from a position of shaking my head.

It's a drug and has its uses like any other drug.

I think it should be used to treat illness like other drugs.

But to turn it loose in society and make it available like cigarettes an booze ......Nope

Our youth have enough things to overcome already .

Legalize it, crime will do down and Twinkie sales up, back in the 70's when I was a LEO, never had to fight a stoned individual nor did they rob stores or people, just maybe shoplifted Keebler cookies and the like. Plus they drive much slower that a drunk on alcohol. Plus I grew up in the 60's and I still feel more like I do now than I did then.

your last line is a double edge, now if they get caught with Marijuana it opens the door for recidivism, even in the past 2 years working in law enforcement I've encountered many repeat offenders who almost all started with a petty Marijuana possession charge.

Or maybe doing illegal stuff "opens the door" to their propensity to..... do illegal stuff?

Is making it legal the right thing to do , or the easy thing to do ?
