Recreational Pot; has your view changed?

Do you think marijuana should be decriminalized and taxed as a commodity?

Your opinion doesn't jive with mine so keep your mouth shut? I thought only liberals in college did that

I think as far as the driving thing goes there was a very small spike in auto accidents in Colorado the first few months of legalization that plained back off to normal numbers before the year was out, but I could be remembering incorrectly. Its been a while since I looked at the fact sheet

Do you think the increase in the number of accident could have had anything to do with the number of "out of staters" that were visiting?

Most stat have a purpose. Just so happens that this person chose to use part of the stats to create a lame ass article/fact sheet.

Would having an accident while going through the drive through window at a liquor store, be considered "Alcohol Related"? Just saying.

Pretty much my thinking as well. Driving stoned isn't that much different than driving drunk (slowed reaction times, ect), but you cant exactly blow into a breathalyzer to determine if you are stoned, and the drugs are in your system for days even though the effects of the drug have worn off. That I think is the big dilemma for me. Of course there hasn't been much study on coming up with a way of scientifically proving how long ago you toked up either because it was illegal in the first place so it was a moot point when you did it, all that mattered was that it was in your system.

All that said I'm all for legalizing it. I grew up with a guy that was all kinds of ****ed up, but if he had a toke every once in a while he was a calm rational human being. I don't myself partake, but just because I don't like it or what it does to me why should I refuse someone it might help the right to use it? No different than the firearms argument to me in that respect

But then again I'm much the same about gay marriage. I don't think the state should deny people access to a marriage licence, I don't think they should require churches to preform the service (or bakers to make a cake) but if there is a church and a preacher willing, how does that effect me in anyway?

Do you think that siblings should be able to get married?
Do you think a parent should be able to marry their child?

If not, why? I would love to know, because I really see no difference.

So you really think that everybody will run out and buy some weed, get high, and ride around town? DJD

("... and it would put more people behind the wheel of a car who have no business being there.")

That wasn't an opinion, it was an ignorant statement.

Hey, let's compare an apple.

Siblings...assuming adults...none of the government's business. It's not a good idea (biologically), but elected officials make much worse choices on our behalf every day. Why we put them in charge of who is allowed to be married, I have no idea.

Children are a different story. The state has a role in protecting classes of people who are at an uncontrollable disadvantage. Children can't be expected to make informed choices before the age of majority, and since marriage should be an informed choice between two people...

^what he said, what goes on between two consenting adults is none of my or your business.

We could also use your thinking about siblings not marrying to make a point about gun control.. you know, to protect people from themselves and your feelings

Of course I was speaking in generalities (about propensity to commit other crimes and of course there are plenty of exceptions). However, every person I personally know from school that went on to have a serious drug addiction issue (and in some cases wound up dead because of it) started off with pot. Several were absolutely friends. So much so, that as a matter of fact, many thought I was a 'head' because of many of my friends (I've never in my life taken an illegal substance).
That however does not affect my opinion about what is, and isn't in the purview of the Federal government.

Everyone in knew in high school that ended up dead or with a serious drug problem started off with alcohol from mommy and daddy's liquor cabinet. Alcohol is the gateway.
