I don't understand how an entire officiating crew of a state playoff elimination game could get this wrong.

I remember in high school, we were playing a similar game against Miami Eddison in their stadium. We were down to the last 12 sec of the game on their 7yd line and when our QB ran the option play, he was tackled an his helmet came off and the clock proceeded to run out of time. As per the rules of FHSAA or any high school athletic association, when a players equipment malfunctions or is removed during play, the clock must stop immediately. After some discussion, they put 2 sec back on the clock, we kicked a FG from their 3yd line and won the game 21-20 an advanced to the state championships..the year before we lost to the same team due to a inadvertent whistle that cost us a 75yd touchdown that would have won the game...hard to stomach as I have been on both sides of that ball.
