Back from the dead!

Well I finally got around to taking some decent pictures of my Savage 110E 35 Whelen build and decided to share, mainly to show off @FatAlbert's beautiful work.

So it started off as an Armslist find in Blueridge, $340 with gas money back in May 2021.

I started ordering all of the parts, while I was waiting on the barrel I considered putting my SightMark Wraith 4k on it.. Just fooling around 😄

The damn'd barrel took every bit of 20weeks.. I knew it was going to be heavy with a 31" Varmint barrel, so I started working on a golf bag "backpack" sling.

I had the barrel delivered to my fathers while I was on the road moving from Newnan, GA to Spokane, WA. I was pretty busy after the move and finally got it all assembled. The first shots I took with it were coincidentally on what would have been Townshend Whelen's 145th birthday March 6th, 2022.

The thing truly is a Savage Whelen! 54 3/4" OAL 17.25lbs X-Caliber barrels started offering a 32" barrel after I got my barrel I'm pretty damn glad they didn't offer them before! The thing JUST fits in my Allen Gearfit MOA Rifle case! It would have been about $200 more for something that'd fit any longer.

I've been developing loads and shooting it all summer, it surly is a head turner at the ranges.
I bought a Remington 783 in .243WIN from Kenosha, WI (via Armslist) back in March this year. I finally got around to ordering the Headspace gauge and new bolt head for it from Pacific Tool & Gauge yesterday.. My next bolt gun build is going to be a 24" 300 HAM'R in a short action rifle/chassis using MDT Metal .223 mags you can attain an COAL of 2.500". After crunching all of the numbers on 6mmTCU, 6.5mmTCU, 7mmTCU, and 300 HAM'R, I came to realize the HAM'R can/most likely beats all of them.. Plus being a cheap ass I wanted to stay with a .223/5.56 based case, not spend lots of money on popular 6/6.5mm projectiles, and have a rifle with a barrel that will outlast me.

Anyone else got any Bolt gun builds to share?

I ended up with a hundred 35 Whelen rounds and have been considering barreling a Mark X Mauser into 35 Whelen, That Savage has reminded me.....must use restraint! Nice rifle by the way.
