I'd just like to share a success story.
@Wallace's shared his Chevy 4.3 experiences.
Lo and behold mine started with a very nice rod knock.
I don't drive the truck much anymore and is used only when I had to move something.
So it sat parked for several weeks. I was going to just drop the pan and replace the rod bearings in the driveway.
Well my buddy has to sell his car so I'm letting him borrow the truck until he finds something.
I decided to use his mechanic to do the job since he needs it in a few days.
I got the truck back today and it starts and runs like it used to.
It is nice to find a good mechanic.
I'll post back if the knock returns with mileage.
It is a temporary solution and I'm curious to see how long it holds up.

I have done many and as long you was a able to smooth crank with emory cloth and get it nice smooth it will last

Done a 4.3 its still running today

Over 70k miles after

Normal field service procedure. Plastiguage is your friend.

As long as the crank isn't damaged, it will hold up.

I immediately stopped using the vehicle. When I dropped it off, warm, there was no knock
I am glad to see the positive replies.

GM used to gauge and fit bearings to their new engines. Several years ago they changed to "one size fits all" and said new production technology was accurate enough to dispense with hand fitting the bearings.

So now "some rod knock" on cold start is acceptable on their motors. Not on mine, though.

Most GM products have a "knock" at start up. It's not consequential and I have about 240,000 on my 5.3. I pull a fairly heavy trailer with it every other weekend or so.

A lot people get confused with rod knock and piston slap
and Lifter noise. I have used Wix filters forever and never looked back..They have a check valve in them, that keeps the oil from coming back down. That way your not starting the engine without oil.
