Ruger Mini 14 - The Good, Bad & Ugly?

RNC, ole Hicock45 likes em too!
His is the model I have... but I run the 20 rounders.
I put a Choat handguard on mine, to give more cooling ventilation, plus I like the look better than the factory handguard.

That might mean something if you show me a video of Hickok hating something.

Concensus seems to be most love their Mini 14's. Now, just gotta find one available for trade. PM me if you have one. Preferences would be a newer model wood/stainless combo or synthetic/stainless.

I have an Excellent Condition, Low Mileage older Stainless & Wood Ranch Rifle...Let me know if you might be interested in that one...HTH....mikey357

What a rifle! Those ar-15 peopl3 just wasted their money. I have had 4 of these and they all were worthy of being military weapons. I went hunting once with my son and he forgot where he left it in the woods. We found it two years later on a deer hunting trip and when he picked it up it fired on the first pull of the trigger. If you get one the accustrut and a new gas bushing set just right will make it the best gun you ever owned. I can do 400 yards or just around the corner with this rifle so it does it all.

I've owned 3 over the last decade or so including one of the newer ones.
They are neat little rifles that are reliable and very fun to blast away with be it paper or obnoxious critters.
Trying to get a sub 2" group in the factory configuration will drive you nuts though...minute of Coke can is how they are best described but this is usually good enough.

I had a 185 series gb model that I loved. I was never able to get great groups from it, but never had any issues with it either. I really liked the aftermarket support for the rifle, making it easy to modify to your own tastes.
I always had great luck with gen 2 tapco mags, never had any issues with the 20 mags I had for it.
I got rid of it for an AR though, and haven't looked back. My needs are better met with the AR, and I shoot it a hell of a lot better without need for an accustrut and bedding.
There is just something cool about the modified garand type action ruger uses for it though. I will eventually buy another, but it will be a mini30.
