Rural Georgia police state?

for what? i dont think any damages were really incurred other than being insulted

would be a waste of money, plus going after gov agencies is something no lawyer really looks forward to unless its a slam dunk. police agencies operate with immunity alot of the time
i guess. sux though. you hear about people all the time sueing for tripping on a sidewalk or the like, seems like this
lady should have some recourse.

I think all concerned citizens, of Georgia, should e-mail the Mayor of Monticello. His name is Bryan Standifer and his e-mail address is bstandifer@bellsouth.net. I have sent him an e-mail, as a concerned citizen. I will probably not get a reply, but I wanted to voice my disapproval of what was done to Mrs. Johnston, and ask that an investigation take place, the investigation be made public, and if the actions taken were inappropriate, corrective measures be taken against the officers involved.

There are threads on here about officers supposedly inappropriate actions in other states. Well, this is in our state and action should be taken to insure something is done. I would love to see hundreds of e-mails sent asking for an investigation into this matter so that the mayor will not sweep this under the proverbial rug. As I said, I have sent one e-mail. Your turn.

Thank you -

I'm not going to attempt to change anyone's mind. I understand people feel the way they feel and a argument on the internet does nothing.

With that said, how many of you have personally been violated/abused by the police? And I don't mean he was "rude" or you didn't like his/her tone...I mean you were actually violated and/or abused by the police...personally (not your wife/friend/coworker/cousins step brother).

I only say this because I personally don't know anyone who has (despite people who are mad that they didn't talk their way out of a ticket and were not happy about it or the cop was just rude and short).

I am sure that some of you might have had this happen....but the reality is it is safe to say that MOST of you have not. Yet you have "heard" of lots of incidents.....if you keep basing your opinion off Internet forums and youtube videos and third party rumors and your one experience with a grumpy patrolman....you will find what you are looking for.

If I wanted to argue that guns are bad/evil tools and only owned by right wing extremist....I could pull stories from blogs and left wing columns that would support this and I would post countless videos from YouTube showing white guys doing STUPID things with guns.... But, we know that is not the case....

Just make your own informed choice....don't be so quick to judge and jump on bandwagons. As a police officer who treats people with respect and someone who works with many others who do the same, it's sad to see so many good people lumped into the "bad apple" pile with the smaller percentage that actually earn it.
Seeing you are from the same geographical area as I am, I have a question for you. Why do many of Carrollton cops and Carroll county sheriff deputies seem to ignore traffic laws?
I was stopped the other day for failing to stop at the stop sign (I did stop, and after some back and forth, the deputy left me alone and moved on, he seemed like a nice younger guy). He then proceeded to fly at 55 (? I do not have a radar gun, way faster than me at 45 mph) in 45 zone, slowed down at the stop sign and turned without using a turn signal. His car radio was silent the whole time we talked, so I do not think there was an emergency he needed to get to.
I've been in Carrol County for 2 years, I see very, very few LEOs who use turn signals. The majority of drivers in GA do not use turn signals either. Is it optional in Georgia?
If it is not optional.... I just do not know what to say.

Thanks and done.

If it is not optional.... If one does not care about the little things can they be trusted to do right in more important areas?
i avoid carrollton. i was working out there 1 week, work truck, full of tools, cop came out of nowhere and
basically shook me down, didnt tell me why and left. i think he thought i was some kind of terrorist handyman..i dont
know.

The police used to be an effective force in the preservation of liberty. It seems more and more that they have become the enforcement arm of tyranny. I know not all cops are bad. But damn all I see is stories of bad guys getting away or getting off and honest hard working people being mistreated and abused. We need to start with our sheriff. He holds the keys to the county. He has the authority to tell the state and federal government to piss off.

Her story follows as submitted to the local paper. She is going to the city Council meeting next week to voice her opinion as well.

...was merely my pet bunny’s alfalfa pellets whose cage was in the back of the van. I was so humiliated and upset I couldn’t sleep and I am still upset two days later. What makes it worse is that a Monticello officer that has known me for years did and said nothing despite the fact that the allegations of pot use are laughable seeing as how I have lost 70 pounds in half a year which would be nearly impossible to do with additional cravings for food brought on by pot ‘munchies’.

Haha! Which newspaper, the Monticello Onion?

A++ Bravo

The same freedom hating sadistic idiots who volunteer their free time to participate in setting up roadblocks for the sole purpose of taking DNA and blood samples? Unfortunately, there is no shortage of mental midgets lining up for the 'honor' of serving the greater good.
