Rural Georgia police state?

Get out the voters on the issue: This is the real power of the people.

If it is a city police or sheriff's office involvement, complain to your city / county councilman and have a bunch of people show up at the next meeting to vocally complain to them. Be certain to get their agreement to have the local district attorney to investigate and report on the issue.

File a written complaint with the regional U.S. Attorney's Office. Make certain that you plainly copy your U.S. Senator's Office with a request for their assistance.
Make certain that you include your action(s) in "Letters to The Editor" in your local news rag ... Some people have been known to place paid ads in local papers that ask for information from anyone else who may have witnessed or been victimized ... just make your ad "non-accusatory" (ie. "Some people have complained about" then stated what happened and request their assistance in getting the facts)

Yes, this will not likely result in any immediate / noticeable change, but consistent and relentless documentation and letters do result in action by elected officials.
This as well as action in the voters booth!

I'm not going to attempt to change anyone's mind. I understand people feel the way they feel and a argument on the internet does nothing.

With that said, how many of you have personally been violated/abused by the police? And I don't mean he was "rude" or you didn't like his/her tone...I mean you were actually violated and/or abused by the police...personally (not your wife/friend/coworker/cousins step brother).

I only say this because I personally don't know anyone who has (despite people who are mad that they didn't talk their way out of a ticket and were not happy about it or the cop was just rude and short).

I am sure that some of you might have had this happen....but the reality is it is safe to say that MOST of you have not. Yet you have "heard" of lots of incidents.....if you keep basing your opinion off Internet forums and youtube videos and third party rumors and your one experience with a grumpy patrolman....you will find what you are looking for.

If I wanted to argue that guns are bad/evil tools and only owned by right wing extremist....I could pull stories from blogs and left wing columns that would support this and I would post countless videos from YouTube showing white guys doing STUPID things with guns.... But, we know that is not the case....

Just make your own informed choice....don't be so quick to judge and jump on bandwagons. As a police officer who treats people with respect and someone who works with many others who do the same, it's sad to see so many good people lumped into the "bad apple" pile with the smaller percentage that actually earn it.

She invited the search when she gave permission to bring in the dog.

The correct response would have been say, "I don't consent to search, can I go now? "

If they say no, ask for a supervisor. Dont answer any other questions.

Correct. "Bring on the dog" was not the correct response. Reminds me of the most frequent response to "have you been drinking?", "yes, but only two beers". Its called probably cause and enables additional scrutiny. I would still speak with an attorney on this one and at least get this matter on record. It may help someone else. Most of the LEO's I know are sick and tired of devoting already strained resources to pot smokers (unless impaired while driving).
