I recently acquired a 2002 Fleetwood Terra RV with 9,000 original miles that has not been started in 11 years. I dropped the 75 gallon steel tank and it has VERY significant rust inside. It is divided into compartments by baffles so I cannot simply sand blast it.

Any ideas for removing the rust and sediment? Any input would be appreciated.

Years ago I bought some stuff in a can to fix a motorcycle tank. Can't remember the name of it but it looked like thick milk. Poured it in and kept rolling it around until it coated the entire inside and dried. However...that's a big tank to work with.

There are companies that will epoxy coat the inside. This will prevent future rusting, and scale from flaking, causing continuous problems later. They will probably clean it, also. Of course, you'll need to dump, and hose out any fuel, for safety.

I've got the tank out and most of the old fuel out now. A new tank is between$500 And $1100. I'd like to avoid that kind of expense at least untill I know the coach is worth resurecting.

Any one know if a local shop that does tank cleaning and restoration?

I haven't even made it to the filter yet, but it will be done before cranking for sure. I ran it on ether for a few seconds and it sounds great.
