Rusty pistol barrel-- cheapest solution for refinish?

If you're going for cheap, properly degrease it and cold blue it.Works pretty well and looks good. Repeat as required to keep it protected.

I did an old shotgun barrel with some Walmart gun blue. Cleaned it up real good with a wire wheel, heated it with a propane torch and wiped it down. It came out really nice, I was very surprised. It's not that hard to do. It was a little splotchy at first, but after some time and being oiled repeatedly it really evened out nicely. I'd give it a go. You can always strip it again and you're only out like $5

Yep. Hi Standard. Professional polish and blue.

The home blueing worked just fine. Bottle of Birchwood-Casey PermaBlue from Bass Pro did the trick. Three coats and you can barely tell the old blueing from the new.
