When I was a kid, my uncle (Navy lifer) used to fix that for me when he was home on leave.
Still love it, ‘cept I fix it with that thin sliced Buddig beef on a couple slices of white toast.
Want a different taste, hard boil a couple eggs and substitute them chopped up in place of the beef.
 
Never had it until I got to reception center in Montgomery Al in 1957. I thought someone puked on my plate. I was very hesitant to eat it, but after that it was my favorite with scrambled eggs on the side and a bottle of hot sauce standing by.
