I find it nearly impossible to setup a <10" gun to run with/without the can reliably.

I've tried every buffer there is and some different springs. Could never find a setup that worked both ways.

Get an adjustble gas block.

Bolt speed is often too fast to feed the gun with the can... and ejections too weak without.

What about running an VLTOR A5 buffer system?

No experience with it.

If you choke the gas down at the port.. you get the same amount of gas hitting the BCG with/without the can, after adjustments.

Don't have to worry about gas to the face any more than an unsuppressed gun

This $60 ADIGS kit is what I have on my 10.5" suppressed.
Fully adjustable by pulling out the BCG and turning a set screw in/out as desired.
Gets rid of 'most' of the gas using a standard charging handle.

I run a 14.5 with one and switch from suppressed to non is outside on the upper it's fantastic just saying. Also use BCM mod 4 CH no gas in the face

I disagree. This has an anderson lower and the cheapest PSA upper and bcg i could find. The only thing in it thats not standard is the T3 buffer. It runs 100% can off or on.

DD mk18's are notoriously overgassed though
