You're going to get tired of hearing this...but...just buy a Marlin.Winchester's are fine and dandy, but I prefer the side ejection for several reasons....primary being that a side ejection action doesn't disrupt my sight picture. Also helps if you want to mount an XS Leverail or any sort of optic to have a side ejection.
Find an old one that doesn't have the crossbar safety, gut it, clean it, lube it, and choot it.![]()
Hayata,
I will bring my Marlin on Monday, you can try it out.

If you want to try out my top eject Win 94 with iron sights, let me know. I have plenty of free time over the next week. You are, and continue to be, the MAN.
Thanks for all the advice to all who have posted!
Not wanting to rain on anyone's parade but I think a lever gun should eject out the top like the old cowboy guns. I have no need for a scope and this gun would be for fun, anyway.
No one has mentioned the Rossi so I'm guessing maybe some haters? That's cool. I'm a snob on some things but mostly not on firearms. I have a bunch of budget guns that work great.
Anyway, keep the great posts coming!
Does anyone have any experience with the Henry's (Big Boy)? http://henryrepeating.com/rifle-big-boy.cfm
I have a 22LR a 44Mag and a 45LC the sweetest, smooth action. Shiny brass is like glitter on a Bass boat.. Irresistible. I looked at Uberti they are nice too buy I wanted made in USA.
I like Levers...
