Ziess is a great scope, but while at acedemy last week i looked through a Zeiss and a vortex back to back. The vortex is a nice looking scope but with glass you get what you pay for.

Look into the Vortex line for good affordable glass

I have an older Burris that is very good but it is from the Bosche and Lomb days...very bright scope...

Zeiss Conquest is another good option...

I am a big fan of the Mil-Dot reticle too...

My Nikon Prostaff 3-9/50 really does well. The 50mm lets in lots of light for dawn and/or dusk shooting. The Nikon "spot-on" link on their web site will give you all of the yardage info you need for open prairie shooting.
