On Saturday, April 20, a man in El Paso shot his girlfriend after she threatened to kill him then attacked him with two large kitchen knives.
According to the police report, the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. Apparently an argument broke out between the two which eventually escalated into the 52-year-old woman becoming physical. She began biting the man and punching him in the face repeatedly.
The man then retreated to his bedroom and locked the door, but he could hear the woman outside the bedroom threatening to kill him. The man also told police that he heard what sounded like the woman removing knives from a knife block which was kept in the kitchen.
The woman then broke the bedroom door down and armed with two large kitchen knives, came at the man. He then shot her in the arm with a gun that he had retrieved from the bedroom.
When officers arrived on the scene they found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her arm and the man with several injuries to his hands and face. The woman was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for the gunshot wound, which was believed to be non-life threatening.
Police determined that the man acted in self-defense, and charges are pending against the woman.
There are only four reports of this defensive gun use, one of which is the police report and the others being local media outlets. However, when a best man fatally stabs the bride and injures the groom four years after the wedding, there are 15 pages of articles covering the story. Biasness in the media?
