Shotgun deer hunting....

How do you like to load your shotgun?

All buck shot?
All slugs?

Slugs then buck alternating?
Buck then slugs alternating?

I am am going with slugs/ buck alternating.

Slugs are better than buck shot. That big lead ball creates a major wound channel which results in massive blood loss and easier tracking.

Buckshot has its upsides though.

This is the first season my fiancée has EVER been hunting, and precise aim with a rifle isn't so precise yet. So I'm taking her out with my old mossberg 500 20gauge with Buckshot. At the ranges we are hunting as long as she aims at the boiler room we will be good. I'm hoping I can get her to like this. Really want yo build her up a .243 or .22-250 or similar.

That depends if you are hunting every brush and then I would go 00 buck. When hunt the Florida everglades that about all you use.

I like slug for first shot, then follow up if necessary with buck. Totally over kill but I don't want to lose a deer again. Like I did last week.

All slugs for me. Haven't needed to use buckshot and like Mactavish said, slugs are devastating.

Grew up in a slug only state.. Started hunting pretty young with a single shot.. Learned to make that 1 shot count.. Slugs especially with the "modern" rifled barrels and components are very rifle like.. Good hunting..

Build her up to a 243 but start her on a slug or buckshot? Just go straight to 243....
