Should people seek training if they are going to carry a handgun?

People were commenting on it anyway, so I figured I'd explain the absence of an opinion on requirement.

I think people should if they want to be proficient and confident in their skills. They should not be required to though.

I missed the part about not being required I retract my initial statement. Failure to read on my part. Yes training would be helpful for the novice shooter and ex LEOs who go to the movies.

I don't think it should be mandatory. However, if it was free but not required, I think most would seek training. I know I would seek it.
